OWA Netflix SciFi & Horror Recommendations: August 2016

With a massive heat wave looming across the country, August is going to be one of the rougher months to endure. Not to mention the fact that, for many, school starts back up again at the end of the month. This means that soon there will be busier schedules and less lazy days.  However, Netflix is treating us this month to some great SciFi and Horror to help us take full advantage of these last bits of summer.

Available August 1st

This horror franchise always has a way of surprising the audience with terrifying moments. Being that this is the third in the series, the knowledge of the film’s formula is present, but it still leads to a fun, suspenseful flick. (Oh God, the tanning bed scene... -Jordan)

Available August 1st

This is a remake of the 1974 film with the same name. Some may say that it is less scary than the original - which it honestly might be - but it brings a new level of gore to the classic story. Regardless, this film’s story is intense and terrifying and worth a watch.

Available August 1st

Romance and horror go hand-in-hand in this late ‘90s Tim Burton flick.  Ichabod Crane, played by Johnny Depp, is sent to investigate a series of murders supposedly enacted by a headless horseman.

Available August 1st

The crew of the USS Enterprise-E takes on a clone of Captain Picard named Shinzon. Fun fact: This film is the 10th in the film franchise and the last film to star the cast of the TV series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. (Also just FYI it features a baby Tom Hardy as the bad guy, -Jordan)

13 CAMERAS (2016)

A creepy landlord hides cameras in his rented apartment and spies on his tenants, a newlywed couple who just moved from across the country.
