The Craft

Other Worlds Austin’s next Orbiter screening is the Texas premiere of DAVE MADE A MAZE on Wednesday, July 19 at Flix Brewhouse.

In the film, Dave, an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation.

OWA founder, Bears Fonte, has approved a rescue mission to help save Dave from his maze. But he said not all staff members can go on the mission—who will be left to run the festival? He has tasked Dan Repp, Senior Programmer and Event Director, with interviewing OWA staff to determine who goes into the maze. Next up, Tessa Morrison, Outreach Director.

Dan Repp: Tessa, what are you doing here?

Tessa Morrison: Gordon invited me over. Said something about Dave being lost and having some sort of nervous breakdown? Where is Annie?

DR: Ummm…yeah. So Dave and Annie are in there. ::gestures towards cardboard fort in the middle of the living room:: This is odd… Are we stuck in the film… Reid warned this might happen. If we got too meta with our blog series.

TM: Oooo-kay. So Dave got lost….in a maze…of his own making? I assume Dave made it. This is pretty good, even for Dave. Wasn’t he supposed to get some shit done this weekend? Annie has been complaining that he was supposed to fix the door.

DR: You know how he gets distracted and starts working on various projects.

TM: Yeah, I can relate to that. ::assesses fort:: So, what are we just standing around for? Let’s go in and drag them out. They stuck? Can’t we just lift a corner and have them crawl out?

DR: Odd that you say that, because Bears has actually asked me to assemble part of our team to go in after them but it’s waaay too dangerous. I know it seems absurd, but I don’t think you’re cut out for this venture.

TM: Dan. Cut out? Seriously? This is my jams. I craft… I get it. Cardboard paper cuts hurt like the DICKENS. Especially in the webbing between your fingers...GAW. The worst. Fate worse than death.

DR: No, I don’t think you realize…

TM: Dan, let me clarify. I’ve got THE CRAFT. ::begins emptying out her pockets, with a poof of smoke and some fluttering little cardboard pocket bats, they are full of magical crafting supplies like HEX-acto blades, ever-sharp scissors, hell-fire hot glue guns, unclog-able fabric glue tubes, paper clay golems, and ouchless removal Band-Aids with lil' pentagrams on them::

DR: Uhhhhhhhh. ::tiny cardboard bats fly around Dan's head and he swats gently at them:: Welcome to the search and rescue team!

TM: Heck yeah! All those years of crafting are finally getting utilized in a life-saving fashion. As opposed to making cursed objects for presents to give enemies on Christmas.

DR: I like your enthusiasm. Wait, what?

TM: Don't worry about it you're on the "nice" list. Let's go!! ::charges into the maze headlong::

DR: Yeah, I’ll be right in after you. find out what happens next, you'll just have to come to the Flix Brewhouse screening of Dave Made a Maze July 19th at 7:30 and ask Dan and Tessa.
