Synopsis:

In the near future, the Tangle an AI with airborne nanotech, connects the world.

The Tangle is benevolent; it has stopped crime, keeps us well and safe.  But to make sure it never turns rogue a government agency watches over them from within technology safe rooms, locations impermeable to the nanobots that make up the Tangle. When field agent Margot Foster is found dead in one of these rooms, the agency needs to investigate the first murder in years.

It seems at least one person has escaped the Tangle and is trying to reach out to others. The following is her third attempt:

How can I describe what it's like being inside The Tangle to someone who hasn't experienced it? Think about that feeling you get when your foot falls asleep and you feel tiny tingles. Now imagine those tingles all over your body — not just your skin — but inside your body, on the inner lining of your stomach, going up and down your spinal cord, on the back side of your retina. All at once the tingles and then they're gone. But they're not actually gone. It just means that the nanobots filled your blood and you no longer feel them. Maybe it's that they hardwire your brain once they get inside so that you don't feel them. It only takes seconds.

I remember when they turned The Tangle on and the feeling of millions of micro drones connecting me to the rest of the world. I was in a coffee shop and I watched everyone else. I wasn't going to be able to see my own reaction so I sat in the back of the room and watched the people closest to the door but it didn't matter because they were in our air within seconds. If the feeling is slightly pleasurable, the after effect is peace. Inner peace and peace of mind. We knew with everyone on The Tangle it would be impossible to perform any criminal act. We were safe.

I can't tell you how I was able to free myself from The Tangle. It’s irrelevant anyway. Because if you are getting this you are free as well. I'm trying to put everything I know into this message. And I hope in exchange if you know anything and you can find a way to share it with me please do. My signal locator is embedded in the message itself. But I've developed something that makes it indistinguishable from the nanobots themselves — so as far as I can tell The Tangle just ignores it.

I've also embedded a schematic for hacking your S.O.l., your Secure OnTangle Line, the quantum encrypted hard drive implanted in your brain. It may be the only place to safely keep a secret but it still keeps a record of everything we do and it can be turned against us if we are taken by A.S.P., the Army of Simple Purity. Please do this before listening to my next dispatch. Only after you have executed the hack can I tell you what I've learned about ASP and Cleopatra and the Watchtower.
