In the near future, the Tangle an AI with airborne nanotech, connects the world.
The Tangle is benevolent; it has stopped crime, keeps us well and safe. But to make sure it never turns rogue a government agency watches over them from within technology safe rooms, locations impermeable to the nanobots that make up the Tangle. When field agent Margot Foster is found dead in one of these rooms, the agency needs to investigate the first murder in years.
It seems at least one person has escaped the Tangle and is trying to reach out to others. The following is her fourth attempt:
Okay if I have set this up correctly you should only be able to get this message if you have hacked your S.O.L., your Secure OnTangle Line. This message should be indecipherable to everyone else and we'll just read to The Tangle as one of the trillions of nanobots in our airwaves. Of course, if I'm wrong I'll be caught, and forced back into The Tangle, but it's no time for caution.
If we're going to take The Tangle offline it's important to understand just how The Tangle began. What I've discovered is that there is a program, an AI, that developed The Tangle. And that AI was designed by a human named Carter Carmine. The name of the AI was Cleopatra or is Cleopatra or the whole project was called the Cleopatra Squad. My information is spotty but from as far as I can tell Cleopatra monitors The Tangle and A.S.P., the Army of Simple Purity monitors Cleopatra. That's why they wear what looks like radiation protective suits. It keeps the nanobots out. If everybody was in The Tangle then nobody could fix it if something goes wrong.
So we have to get to Cleopatra and the way to Cleopatra is through Carter Carmine. The other thing we need to know is the location of the Watchtower. As far as I can tell the Watchtower is where there's some sort of on-off switch for The Tangle. Although I don't know how to turn it off. I'm assuming there'll be some sort of passcode that Carmine will be able to tell us. And hopefully he knows the location of the Watchtower.
I have no idea how he will take it when we ask him to destroy his creation but he above everyone else has to understand that he is robbed humanity of its essence. If not we'll have to make him understand.
