The Cult of Personality: The Dramatization of Charles Manson

The Cult of Personality: The Dramatization of Charles Manson

My father became quite unnerved by a woman who was extremely friendly and gave me candy at the gift shop. The realization that we were in a town that was populated by over two dozen Tony-Alamo-owned businesses that were staffed by Tony Alamo's followers made Dad uneasy. In what seemed an irrational fear and overreaction to me at the time, Dad was concerned that my younger sister and I would be kidnapped and brainwashed -- we hightailed it out of Alma, putting as much distance between the town as we could that afternoon.

Other Worlds Austin's Outreach Director, Tessa Morrison hasn't been seen or heard from in weeks. Where is she and what is she up to? Did she choke on some microwaved meal and now lies dead on her floor with the house cat eating her face? Get abducted by aliens? Eaten by wild boar? We aren't sure, but we are going to find out.

In honor of the SciFi comedy FUTURE ’38, which screens Wednesday, May 17 at Flix Brewhouse, the OWA staff is creating a Time Capsule to be opened in 80 years.

FUTURE ’38 is a Technicolor valentine to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s and ‘40s, with a SciFi twist. It’s a time-travel adventure which presents the exotic future-world of 2018 A.D., as imagined by the filmmakers of 1938!

We Hope Kelsey Didn't End Up Like Barb on STRANGER THINGS

First, we will attempt to communicate with the Kelseios via ham radio and walkie-talkies. If that doesn’t work, we will try an elaborately staged Christmas light display. We have no idea why this works but we’ve had some success with it in the past.

If Kelsey Went Over the Edge, Let's Start Drowning Our Sorrows

If Kelsey Went Over the Edge, Let's Start Drowning Our Sorrows

Though a longshot...literally...there is a chance that the Kelseios, with its hyperdrive burning at full throttle and leapfrogging through every available wormhole to further and further reaches of the universe, has not only reached but my have also gone right over the edge of the universe.

Another transmission would come through as we'd grow closer to the last known location of the missing vessel. A distress signal. Likely riddled with static and alarming behavior...that seems on the level. So of course we would go investigate in that case...

Angry Acidic Aliens Have Attacked Kelsey

Angry Acidic Aliens Have Attacked Kelsey

Scenario Description: An alien Xenomorph has breached the ship's defense and lurks within the many corridors. Over the last year and a half, Kelsey and her crew have hopefully overcome the odds and survived, but most likely the Xenomorph has hunted them down, one by one. Suggested Strategy:

OWA Team Mission: KELSEIOS

OWA Team Mission: KELSEIOS

A few months after the inaugural 2014 festival, our team decided to pull together all the profits from the festival and send team member Kelsey Hockmuller into space to discover the true meaning of Science Fiction. The launch and first six months of the exploration went well, but then silence. We tracked the ship and it has been orbiting Saturn for the last year and a half. The great news is the Other Worlds Austin team was able to raise enough money to send a rescue mission to save Kelsey and her crew.  Since we have no idea what made the ship go dark, we are planning for everything. Please keep Kelsey in your thoughts. She is screaming right now and no one can hear her.

Almost two hundred titles exist on IMDb alone with "Frankenstein" in the name, with various interpretations over the last century by directors and screenwriters. While not all these films are highly rated, the premise of these recommendations are worth viewing for any Frankenstein fans.

THE COMMENTARY’S THE THING: the OWA Terror of Frankenstein Screening

I remember when DVD’s were a new thing, and the Director’s Commentary was what sold me. I converted all my old VHS tapes to the new format to hear words of wisdom from the creators of the film. It was a film class for those of us who weren’t going to spend ridiculous sums on grad school
