A few months after the inaugural 2014 festival, our team decided to pull together all the profits from the festival and send team member Kelsey Hockmuller into space to discover the true meaning of Science Fiction. The launch and first six months of the exploration went well, but then silence. We tracked the ship and it has been orbiting Saturn for the last year and a half. The great news is the Other Worlds Austin team was able to raise enough money to send a rescue mission to save Kelsey and her crew. Since we have no idea what made the ship go dark, we are planning for everything. Please keep Kelsey in your thoughts. She is screaming right now and no one can hear her.
Other Worlds Austin Founder and Artistic Director Bears Fonte sits down across from Other Worlds Austin Founder and Artistic Director Bears Fonte. Wait a minute, that’s Bears 2.0, a home-grown clone which we’ve kept under lock and key since he tried to program a Michael Bay retrospective. In the wake of the threats of the end of humanity, and unable to find the cause, Bears figures it is time to check in with his evil counterpart.
On Tuesday May 24 the Other Worlds Austin Staff meeting was interrupted by an unknown force that possessed OWA Director of Operations, Courtney Hazlett. Courtney came to and the team huddled around Jordan's phone as the app filtered out all of the bullshit. They gasped in unison as the results flashed on the screen. HUMANITY ENDS ON JUNE 23rd 2016.
But who sent the message and how are they planning to end humanity?
On Tuesday May 24 the Other Worlds Austin Staff meeting was interrupted by an unknown force that possessed OWA Director of Operations, Courtney Hazlett. We will post the interrogation logs to our blog in the hope that you can help us figure out who plans on ending humanity on the same night as the Other Worlds Austin 9pm screening of PRISONER X at Flix Brewhouse.
Why do I groan when I hear people talking about it, lavishing it with praise? Because I hold Star Wars to a higher standard than any other series, and because J.J. Abrams and his team didn’t. This new film suffered from lazy, repetitious storytelling, a disregard for the original trilogy, and a whole mess of missed opportunities.
Robots and artificial intelligence, a human mission to Mars, self-driving and driving cars, brain-controlled robot arms, programmable microbes, neurotech, tricorders, human-machine interfaces, and the Hyperloop – these are all things that within most of our lifetimes were part of science fiction in literature and film.
We made it, you guys. We're here. This is now officially the future. October 21, 2015 was the date to which Marty McFly travels in BACK TO THE FUTURE PART 2. Marty lands in a world that has the Cubs winning the World Series, strangely shaped Pepsi bottles ordered via robot, flying cars, hover boards, self lacing shoes, and 3D holographic movies. It's the future of the past.
