May the 4th delivers Fun of the Fourth Order

By JORDAN BROWN — The 3rd annual Other Worlds Austin May the Fourth Fan Film Screening was a success! Our host, 4th Tap Brewing Cooperative, even came up with a special dark beer just for us: “The Fist of the Empire.” They also renamed one of their mainstay light brews as “The Iron Knight” for our event. And if you absolutely could not choose between the Dark and the Light Side, there was a black-and-tan option, “The Voss Mystic.”

As usual, we offered a carefully crafted program of STAR WARS fan films (we gave particular focus this year to one of our favorite characters, the inimitable Admiral Ackbar). This year’s Costume Contest winner was a team effort – Rey came with BB-8, who got into the spirit by dressing up as R2-D2! New this year was the Wookie Mating Call Contest, moderated by our own Senior Programmer Dan Repp. Competition was fierce, but Alyssa Doss crushed it in the end with her confident call. Alyssa, along with our Outreach Director Tessa Morrison, is part of Ladies of Fandom, a weekly local TV show from Fanboy TV!

Biggest of congrats goes to to Renee Larrison, the winner of our Star Wars Day A TAUNTAUN OF GOODIES raffle! The prize included a 4th Tap private brewery tour, gift cards for Flix Brewhouse & I Luv Video, a 45-minute photoshoot from festival friend Becca Gamache, and much more. Renee, by the way, came dressed as Darth Vader’s Mistress! Nice. All those who entered the raffle also received a commemorative screen-printed #NotMyEmperor OWA poster, designed by our official Festival Artist David Poe.
