Other Worlds Austin makes its first programming announcements for the Fifth Annual SciFi Film Festival (Dec 6-9, 2018). Distinguished director/producer Alan J. Levi will receive Other Worlds’ “Defender of the Universe” award and will host an exclusive 40th anniversary screening of the original theatrical pilot for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. In addition, The NASA-inspired docuseries ARTIST DEPICTION will make its World premiere, and the SciFi Drama PRECOGNITION makes its North American premiere.
Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival has announced its final wave of programming for Austin’s first and only SciFi film festival (Dec 7-10) at Flix Brewhouse, as well as special event trivia show THE BIG QUIZ THING at OTHER WORLDS AUSTIN.
The slate includes the North American premieres of TUFTLAND and RESTORATION; the Texas premiere of Closing Night Film CURVATURE; and the special retro screening of the 1979 Disney classic THE BLACK HOLE, with Defender of the Universe Awardee director Gary Nelson.
As part of its Orbiter Year-Round Series, Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival is proud to present the Texas premiere of the alternative timeline thriller, DIVERGE, on Wednesday, August 16 (7:30pm) at Flix Brewhouse. Writer/Director James Morrison will be in attendance and will do a Q&A after the screening.
As part of its ongoing mission to encourage work in Science Fiction, Other Worlds Austin held its second annual SciFi Screenplay Contest to reward creativity in its earliest stages and encourage writers to keep working in the genre. The contest is sponsored by No BullScript Consulting.
The contest garnered an impressive array of scripts from all over the country. The Grand Prize winner is the short KEYSTROKE by Tom Sanchez Prunier. Other Worlds Austin congratulates Mr. Sanchez Prunier on his compelling, entertaining, and well-written script.
Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival wrapped up its third season today by announcing the2016 winners for its Best Feature Audience Award, Best Short Audience Award (sponsored by Film Colossus), the Mary Shelley Award, the Cthulhies awards, and the finalists for the Screenplay Contest.
The slate includes the Closing Night Film, THE UNSEEN; the North American Premiere of STILLE RESERVEN [Hidden Reserves]; the documentary, GHOST ROCKETS; the final Under Worlds Austin selection, THE AXE MURDERS OF VILLISCA (written by Austin’s own Owen Egerton); and the Texas Premiere of the SciFi/Horror, BLOOD HUNTERS.
