Other Worlds Film Festival will present famed writer/director/producer Nicholas Meyer with its “Defender of the Universe” award at the fest's sixth annual celebration of SciFi, Horror, and other-worldly filmmaking to be held December 5 - 8, 2019 in Austin, Texas.
"Before you start getting creative, know your prospective audience. Be clear about what you want them to know and what you want them to do. It is at that point you can do the fun part. There have been many famous ad campaigns that won awards for creativity but did nothing to achieve their actual goals."
"Whenever interesting or out-of-left-field directors are given a chance to do something like that today, more often than not it's a pre-packaged deal: a comic book film or remake that doesn't let them really exhibit their voice. But for a time in the 80's, some great filmmakers were really given that chance and made films that, if not classics, were at least interesting."
"I enjoy the constant presence of the unknown. It’s true that as technology progresses, it’s easier to fact-check things like believable movements in Zero Gravity or the proper procedure of carrying out a lab experiment. But there’s a certain freedom to be had in creating a sci-fi story. Can you prove that giant squirrel aliens don’t exist out there somewhere? "
