Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival has announced its first wave of programming for Austin’s first and only SciFi film festival (Dec 7-10) at Flix Brewhouse. The 2017 slate includes the Texas premiere of BEYOND SKYLINE, a concurrent sequel to the alien invasion thriller SKYLINE (2010). Writer/Director Liam O’Donnell will be in attendance and will do a Q&A after the screening.
“I am excited to open the 2017 festival with Liam O’Donnell’s exhilarating ‘us vs. them’ alien invasion flick,” says Bears Fonté, OWA Founder and Artistic Director. “BEYOND SKYLINE is the latest installment from a great franchise, but brilliantly one that doesn’t require the first film to understand. The production design in this film is breathtaking, and the fight sequences are f-ing awesome. It’s going to be the perfect film to kick the festival into overdrive on December 8th.”
"I've been excited about BEYOND SKYLINE since they announced the casting of Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian,” adds Dan Repp, OWA Senior Programmer and Event Director. “They redefined the martial arts genre for me with THE RAID in 2011. THE RAID lead actors versus aliens! Boom. Sold. Now that I've seen it, I can assure you that they don't disappoint."
The 2017 first wave also includes the World Premiere of the documentary CLOSER THAN WE THINK, the North American Premiere of MINDHACK from producer and OWA alumni Roxy Shih (THE TRIBE), the US Premiere of DEFECTIVE, and the Texas premiere of the Under Worlds Austin feature GNAW, co-written by Mary Shelley Award nominee Kathryn Gould.
In its fourth year, Other Worlds Austin has established itself as the premier SciFi festival in the country. In addition to over a dozen features, Other Worlds Austin will present shorts programs covering all varieties of SciFi: thrillers, action, supernatural, and horror.
Badges to the festival start at $60 and can be purchased at OtherWorldsAustin.com.
