“I think over seven years, this is one of our most ambitious, varied and international programs ever,” said Other Worlds Film Festival Founder, Bears Rebecca Fonté. “I’m excited that we will get to give LAPSIS its Austin audience premiere, after it was intended to play SXSW. SWEET RIVER and BLEED WITH ME are character driven Under Worlds entries that don’t make sense in many other genre fests but are perfect for us. DUNE DRIFTER starts Battlestar Galactica and ends a little more Europa Report. And I’m excited to premiere the first ever Weirder Worlds sidebar where the animated space rock opera DEATH OF A ROCKSTAR is joined by ultra-violent LGBTQ thriller PLAYDURIZM and the SciFi Horror Puppet Comedy CREATURES, from the puppet creation team behind The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. If you like CrittersGhoulies or Gremlins then Tony Jopia has just delivered the Christmas themed creature SciFi Puppet Comedy you’ve been asking for.
In addition, 2020 Other Worlds Film Festival will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Danny Cannon’s cult classic with JUDGE DREDD for the Supernova Launch. With every other SciFi film a comic book movie these days, Judge Dredd premiered at a time (1995) when Danny Cannon’s big, bold in-your-face shoot-em-up drawn in magic marker was something of an anomaly. Cannon will join Supernova Launch fans for a Q&A discussing law, justice, and the meaning of life.

Blending SciFi and comedy, Dennis Curlett’s World Premiere PARADOX LOST screens as 2020’s Other Worlds Centerpiece film. Fonté explains on this choice for the centerpiece, “I love any fresh take on time travel and Dennis Curlett’s film manages both comedic surprises and unexpected tenderness. Plus, as a former Second City graduate, I’ve often commented the intersection of science fiction and improvisational comedy far too untapped.”

Under Worlds will showcase AN IDEAL HOST as the centerpiece this year. Comedy, Horror, SciFi from far away in Perth, Robert Woods’ satirical take on GenZ’ers making a go at adulting never settles in (like your older/better sibling did). It just does what it wants when it wants to.

In addition, the 2020 Other Worlds Film Festival will include the Defender of the Universe Screening, Closing Night Film, sixteen other features and four programs of shorts. The full schedule and festival events for the 2020 Other Worlds Film Festival will be released mid-November.

Q&As will be available after each screening.
