Pioneer SciFi Film Club: A Reintroduction
Happy New Year! It's an exciting time of new beginnings, but these next few months are not without their slow, gloomy moments. Cold weather? No daylight? Why not spend some time with your friends at Other Worlds chatting about some fantastic films of SciFi past?
We have three months of exciting Pioneer SciFi Film Club events coming up, curated and hosted by our very own Brett Ryan Bonowicz (programmer & Screenwriting Director). There will be guest speakers, guest programmers, and more!
*A primer for first-timers: Pioneer Sci-Fi Film Club is like a book club, for SciFi films. Watch the film(s) on your own and then come to the meeting ready to listen and discuss.

THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN and ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN
For the first time (but not the last) we’re having Other Worlds alumni present a favorite SciFi film to the Pioneer Club. Acclaimed filmmakers The Summers Brothers will talk about their films and the influence director Peter Hyam’s 1978 film has had on them.
DESTINATION MOON with Special Guests Ron Miller and Douglass M. Stewart
Special guests Ron Miller, a renowned space artist & author of The Art of Chesley Bonestell and Douglass M Stewart, director of the award-winning documentary CHELSEY BONESTELL: A BRUSH WITH THE FUTURE (available to stream on Tubi) will join us to talk about Chesley’s contributions to DESTINATION MOON!
2021 Screenwriting Competition Winners!
"In my first year as director of the screenplay competition I’m so thrilled to announce our grand prize winner Mauja by Boris Schaarschmidt. Mauja (Labradorian Inuit for: Soft Deep Snow) is an incredibly swift and interesting two-hander that deftly defies expectations while keeping the reader completely wrapped. Funny, fully drawn characters anchor this science fiction script grounded in reality even as it (literally) reaches for the skies. Congratulations to Boris and to all of the winners this year. An easy, fun way to support indie films
Lots of you have been asking how to best support the films you saw at this year's festival (not to mention those past). The best way to help amplify your voice is to leave a rating and a review on Letterboxd. Look through your Other Worlds festival program and find your favorite films.
Letterboxd is a free social platform: you set up an account and log the films you watch. Can’t remember what you watched last Tuesday? Check your Letterboxd. Your rating and review help the independent filmmakers, showing distributors and other festivals what a great film they have in front of them.
