What's This? Holiday Hypocrisy?
Every October 1st, my roommate places a black-and-white wreath on the front door to celebrate the spooky Halloween spirit. But there is a problem: the wreath is adorned in Jack Skellington lights and is clearly a THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS themed wreath. Why is it up in October!?
Right after the introduction song “This Is Halloween” (that I will concede is a Halloween anthem), we learn that the citizens are celebrating the end of a very successful Halloween night. It is now November 1st. So Halloween is OVER!!! Sure, the main character is the “Pumpkin King” and it takes place in Halloweentown. But that does not negate the fact that the movie is about the discovery of Christmastown and Jack’s ill-advised plot to be Santa.
While I agree that THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS can be enjoyed anytime between fall and early winter, I really have to point out the hypocrisy of my roommate getting mad about Christmas music playing too early. If I have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving for Christmas music you should have to wait too.
