Inspirational Image: Ghost Trap
GHOST BUSTERS premiered two months after my birth in 1984.
I literally can't remember a time in my life when my mind wasn't constantly filled with images of ghost traps, proton packs, ectoplasm, and four schlubby exterminators standing in an elevator with untested nuclear accelerators strapped to their backs. The world presented in this film is so well thought out and expansive, and a lot of that has to do with how seriously the gang took the real-world science behind the paranormal when writing the screenplay. One of them (Aykroyd!) took it maybe a little more seriously than the others, and that passion shines through all of the scene stealin' Bill Murray could conjure.
Ever since I popped that VHS in for the first time, I've been in love with that world. I've known other loves (STAR TREK, BACK TO THE FUTURE, a professor named Indy), but I'll never forget the moment I placed my hand on the stone walls that line Hook & Ladder 8 in New York City. Touching that wall made the science-fiction of GHOST BUSTERS jussssst a little bit less fictiony to me. :)
