Critically acclaimed Horror THE VIGIL will be the first
Orbiter Screening of the New Year!

Other Worlds Film Festival is very excited to present THE VIGIL, with the support of the Austin Jewish Film Festival. As the first Orbiter screening of 2021, we hope you'll join us! The film, in addition to a Q&A with writer/director Keith Thomas, will be available via Eventive from Thursday, January 28 to Tuesday, February 2.
Steeped in ancient Jewish lore and demonology, THE VIGIL is a supernatural horror film set over the course of a single evening in Brooklyn’s Hasidic Borough Park neighborhood. Low on funds and having recently left his insular religious community, Yakov reluctantly accepts an offer from his former rabbi and confidante to take on the responsibility of an overnight “shomer,” fulfilling the Jewish practice of watching over the body of a deceased community member. Shortly after arriving at the recently departed’s dilapidated house to sit the vidil, Yakov begins to realize that something is very, very wrong.

BLIGHT | Writer/Director: Brittany Clemons
When her brother is gunned down in a racially-charged shooting, a young girl with mysterious powers doles out the worst punishment she can think of to the cop who killed him.
“The jury unanimously awards Brittany Clemons the Mary Shelley prize for her compelling short film, BLIGHT. Clemons reimagines the superhero genre and deftly weaves SciFi and dramatic elements to shed light on police brutality and systemic discrimination against Black Americans. BLIGHT's unforgettable ending brings home the film's message and lingers long after the images leave the screen. We're absolutely thrilled to shine a spotlight on an exciting new voice in SciFi and we look forward to following Clemons' journey as a writer/director.” – Erin Li
The Jury: Alyx Picard Davis: Executive Director, deadCenter Film; Sabina Graves: Filmmaker, journalist, ComingSoon.net; and Erin Li: Filmmaker, past winner, Kepler X-47

HOW I LEARNED TO BLOG LIKE A CHAMP AFTER THE END OF THE WORLD by Nick Carmine
“HOW I LEARNED TO BLOG LIKE A CHAMP AFTER THE END OF THE WORLD is both timely and timeless in its examination of how we, as humans, engage with media and technology. Humor highlights a cautionary tale filled with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. At a time when the world feels like it might be at its end, this script is cathartic and possibly prescient.” – Kelli Horan, Screenwriting Co-Director and Programmer, Other Worlds Film Festival
