“Dreaming is impossible without myths.... the mind craves boundaries.  Depending on the myths we believe in, those boundaries can be magnificently vast, or crushingly tight."

“It was amazing that no one had done a shomer horror film.

Then I did a little survey of the Jewish horror that's out there and realized that almost all of it is a Jewish demon…that affects a non-Jewish family. I thought, ‘Why don't we make a Jewish horror film IN a Jewish community and have that be the setup?’”

-Keith Thomas (writer/director)
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 92% based on 36 reviews, with an average rating of 6.90/10. The site's critics consensus reads: "Consistently clever and creepy, THE VIGIL mines richly atmospheric supernatural horror from a deep well of religious traditions."

HOW TO ORBITER:
-Sign up via Eventive HERE for a $12 ticket (Q&A included)
-Watch the film and Q&A anytime from 7pm CST January 28 - 11:59pm CST February 2nd!
Bears Rebecca Fonté named Artistic Director of aGLIFF

No, she's not leaving Other Worlds! But Becki has been honored with a new role at aGLIFF, which she has had a part in since 2016.

“aGLIFF is such a fundamental part of my own personal coming out story – it was the first place I saw my internal self on screen. I couldn’t be more honored to step into the programmer’s seat,” said Fonté. “I’m sure when Scott Dinger founded this festival, he could never have imagined how much it would mean to so many people. I can only aspire to live up to all the great programmers who came before me.”

She will head up a year of exciting changes for the longest-running film festival in Austin, and the whole team is excited to see what Year 34 has in store!

Save the Date! Submissions open on March 1st for Other Worlds 2021
